Real World Connections

In order to help make class work more relevant, students need to connect what they are learning with real world experiences. Travis High School and AISD's Office of Redesign developed a program during the 2009-2010 school year called "Real World Connections" to create opportunities for students to interact with professionals who work in career fields that relate to the academies of which students are a part.   You can help Travis High School in the following ways:

Participate in a Classroom Conversation or a Networking Luncheon

Visit with students in a classroom setting to discuss your career, how you got started in this career field and the steps that students must take to prepare for this career.

Or, meet with a group of students during their lunch time for a brown bag lunch and an informal discussion about the work you do in the “real world.”

Sponsor an Enrichment Trip so Students can  “Experience the Real World”

We don’t just want to bring professionals to the school.  We also want to bring students to the professionals.  Help us identify opportunities for students to see what it takes to succeed in the working world.
